                            Pre Tan Care and Preparation

One Week before Competition Tan:
  • A base tan helps the spray darken even more. If using a tanning bed is an  option it is advised. Using a tanning bed will also help pull water from under the skin.
  • Make sure to exfoliate your skin 2-3 times. The better condition your skin is in the better your tan will look.
  • Three days prior to your competition discontinue using your deodorant and moisturizers. Start using orange dial soap as your daily soap.
24 Hours before Competition Tan:
  • Remove unwanted body hair by shaving or using depilatory cream. If you prefer waxing over shaving please do so 72 hours prior.
  • Use Jan Tana PH skin prep to exfoliate entire body. If you choose to use a product other than Jan Tana PH skin prep use a combination of orange dial soap and St. Ives apricot scrub. Just make sure that it is a mild, oil free soap.
8 Hours before Competition Tan:
  • Make sure to shower, but do not apply body oil or moisturizers to your skin. This can create a barrier and potential unwanted discoloration. Washing with Jan Tana PH skin prep is advised, Orange dial soap is acceptable.
  • Wear loose clothing to and from your tanning appointment to minimize contact to your skin. Wearing tight clothing such spandex or anything with elastic bands could rub your skin and damage your tan. Avoid wearing any clothing you plan on keeping. Spray tan will stain your clothing.
  • No socks and shoes, wear flip flops instead to your tanning appointment.
  • Plan your day so that you can arrive to your competition tanning appointment at least 10-15 minutes early to properly prepare for your tan.
5 Minutes before Competition Tan:
  • Remove makeup and wipe underarms with baby wipes
  • Tie hair back away from face and neck with hair tie
  • Remove contact lenses, Clothing, Shoes, and Jewelry
What to wear during Competition Tan:
  • What to wear will be according to your comfortability. You can wear top/ bottom, bottom only, or nude.
  • If you decide to wear clothing during your tanning session it needs to be minimal and smaller than your posing suit to reduce lines and line visibility from the stage.
After your Competition Tan:
  • Wipe off palms and fingernails with baby wipes.
  • Allow 15 minutes or more for proper drying.
  • Make sure to bring your own sheets, pillow cases and towels to avoid destroying the hotels.
  • Avoid activity that will cause you to sweat. Take extra care around water and using the bathroom.
  • No deodorant, perfume or cologne after competition tan.
  •  NO SHOWERS UNTIL AFTER THE COMPETITION. AVOID WASHING YOUR HANDS AS WELL.
